What is Socca?

Socca is a 6-a-side variant of football, with five outfield players and one goalkeeper.

Socca – Rules

  • A match lasts from 20 to 30 minutes depending on the tournament regulations (time when the ball is out of play is also counted)
  • The ball is thrown back into play with an overarm throw from behind the head
  • There is no offside rule
  • Goalkeepers can use their feet in designated areas
  • During a penalty kick, the taker dribbles the ball towards the goal and has 10 seconds to score
  • Every foul results in a free kick or penalty being awarded
  • Matches are played with a size 5 ball
  • Matches take place on outdoor pitches with natural or artificial surface
  • Pitch dimensions are 46–50 m in length and 26–30 m in width
  • The penalty area is a rectangle measuring 14 m wide and 7 m long

Socca World Championships

So far, six editions of the Socca World Championships have been held. The team from Kazakhstan has the most success overall — they won the tournament in 2023, reached the final twice, and finished third in 2025 after defeating the Netherlands 3:1 in the bronze medal match. The Polish National Team has also achieved great results in Socca: they reached the final twice (2018 and 2019), won the bronze medal in 2023, and became World Champions in 2025.
